Product Description

HABITAT is IKA's new intelligent laboratory bioreactor. As the first bioreactor to offer a lid holder, the HABITAT ensures ergonomic operation and a tidy laboratory environment.

HABITAT provides optimal conditions for cell culture and microbial fermentation:
When connected to a thermostatic circulator, it can be used as a fermenter. Attached to a light panel, it becomes a photobioreactor again.
Single-wall and jacketed tanks are available, with a minimum volume of 0.5L and a maximum volume of 10L.

The HABITAT cell control unit kit is an advanced bioreactor system designed for cell culture applications, allowing precise monitoring and control of biological processes. It consists of a control unit with all interfaces for gas supply, rehydration, sensors and temperature control, as well as a user-friendly tablet interface for seamless operation of the bioreactor.

Control and monitoring
Intuitive software makes it easy to control and monitor bioprocesses and related parameters from a 10.4-inch tablet. Users can choose from batch, replenishment, and perfusion/continuous culture modes of operation to meet the needs of a variety of cell culture techniques. The innovative Chaotic Mixing feature provides efficient, uniform mixing when needed. Control software provides clear calibration management, real-time data visualization, and complete process documentation to ensure FDA CFR Part 11 compliance (optional).

keep each other informed
With the built-in mass flow controller, four separate gas lines (N2, O2, Air and CO2) can be supplied with precise, individually adjustable gas supply for flow rates of 0.01 - 2 L/min to meet cell growth requirements.

fluid infusion
4 integrated Watson Marlow pumps with adjustable direction and speed for easy pumping in and out of different fluids such as acids, bases, antifoam agents, and supply fluids required for mammalian cell culture media administration.

temperature control
Constant and precise temperature control during incubation is ensured by heating blankets, which are adapted to the corresponding tank dimensions. (Heating blankets are included in the HABITAT cell tank set).

Product Features

Bioreactors, fermenters or photobioreactors
Depending on the type of cultured cells, in combination with the IKA thermostatic circulator, the HABITAT can also be connected and used as a bioreactor, fermenter or photobioreactor. It is available with LED light panels. This guarantees reliable and powerful application possibilities from a single source.

Can lid holder
The lid holder makes pre-lab preparation easier by supporting the lid for accessory installation without having to move the lid back and forth and pick it up and down. The motor and sensors hang from the side of the holder, making it easy to access and install them on the lid, and the sensors are fully protected. Sterilization is also easy: the accessories on the lid can be sterilized in the autoclave.

CHAOTIC MIXING
In addition to the well-known stirring control mode, the HABITAT has a new mixing mode: In Chaotic Mode, the mixing of the reactor contents follows the mathematical principles of a chaotic dynamical system. This ensures a more homogeneous mixture. Three different mixing paddles are also available on request: 6-blade slurry, 3-blade slurry, and fan blade mixing paddles, with up to 3 paddles assembled on the mixing rod.

2 motor sizes
The HABITAT is the only bioreactor of its kind where the motor size matches the tank volume. For working volumes up to 2 l a smaller motor is installed. This makes the bioreactor lighter and easier to handle.
