Taber Linear Abrator 5770
Product Description
The TABER® Linear Wear Gauge (Wear Machine) - Model 5770 is designed to test contoured or flat surfaces and is ideal for evaluating finished products of all sizes. To extend the instrument's versatility, the Linear Abrader can be configured with optional test accessories to perform different types of abrasion tests. It can also be used for wet and dry testing.
The Taber Linear Abrasion Tester is equipped with a horizontal arm that performs a linear reciprocating motion. A precision bearing spline shaft is attached to the end of the arm to form a "free-floating" test system and allow vertical movement. The test attachment is fixed to the bottom of the spline shaft and a counterweight bracket is mounted on top. As the horizontal arm moves back and forth, the test system is raised and lowered vertically along the specimen profile with the test attachment. A laser alignment guide assists in setting the specimen to ensure that the abrasive reaches the desired area.
The Model 5770 introduces a series of innovative enhancements designed to optimize the user experience. The tester features an intuitive, easy-to-use LCD touch screen with an easy-to-navigate interface and customizable options to simplify operation. Adjustable settings allow the user to select speeds (2 to 75 cycles per minute, 8 preset speeds), stroke lengths (11 stroke lengths ranging from 0.2 to 4.0 inches) and test loads.

The "Free Float" test system has a base load of 350 grams and consists of a test attachment, spline shaft and weight holder. Three 250 gram weight trays are supplied with the instrument and optional weight trays from 10 to 250 grams can be added to the weight holder to increase the test load to approximately 2100 grams. Optional accessories can also be used to reduce the load. For example, a 150 mm aluminum splined shaft and plastic Wearaser collet kit can reduce the minimum load on the sample to 60 g. The Taber Linear Wear Instrument can be programmed to a maximum of 50,000 cycles but must be handled with care as the abrasive may wear out before the test is complete.
Every Taber Linear Grinder is equipped with a Wearaser® collet assembly and CS-10 and H-18 Wearaser abrasives, which are similar in size and shape to pencil erasers, and are made from the same high quality Taber abrasives as the genuine Taber wheels. This allows the same abrasives to be used in linear grinders, Taber reciprocating grinders and Taber rotary table grinders.
The Multihead Attachment (sold separately) includes an additional spline shaft that allows two tests to be performed simultaneously using the Linear Wear Machine.
Due to the wide variety of products that can be tested with the Taber Linear Wear Tester, the end user will need to select the appropriate fixture or mounting device for his or her product.
